WORKSHOP: CREATIVE RECYLCING A.K.A. THRIFTY TWISTS

INSTRUCTOR – JADE WEISS
WHEN: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16 & FRIDAY, MARCH 15 (6:00PM-8:00PM)
INSTRUCTOR: Jade Weiss
PRICE: $10-$40 SLIDING SCALE
MAX STUDENTS: 12
(Wine, other beverages & lite refreshments offered)
Format: Stand alone class
Length: 2 hours each
Class focus: creatively twist a thrift store painting or find (lamp, box, clock, etc.)
General Curriculum:
Bring Your Own Painting (or other found object) to “twist” – could be a thrifted painting, one of your own, or another object you’ve found that could use some pizazz!
With a variety of materials such as paint, hot glue, googly eyes, tassels, glitter, buttons, and more, we will be using an existing piece of art or object to create something new!
The goals of this? To illustrate that sometimes the best way to get out of a creative block is to do something goofy, inspiring, and wild. Recycled art goes quite far in both materials and utilizing existing items to create something that makes our hearts sing.
In the first 30 minutes we do some introductions (names, pronouns, tell me your favorite part about recycling, thrifting, or creating art out of recycled or thrifted items), discuss the available materials, and what we’ll be doing with them.
Then we have an hour and 15 block to create, paint, and twist our thrifted item. The last 15 minutes or so we’ll share with each other what we’ve created.

Jade asks that you bring along some of the following items if you can – but no worry if you can’t, we’ll still have a lot to work with!

Scissors
Any fun recycled / old materials to make puppets (socks, big old fabrics, table cloths, curtains, paper bags, balaclava’s, gloves or mittens, googly eyes, cardboard, cardboard tubes, buttons, yarn, any of those weird things you have at home that you’re not sure what to do with, etc.)
