Laura Smith

CREDENTIALS:  Laura is a graduate of the Juilliard School and Mannes College of Music and holds a Master’s Degree in Opera/Music Theater.   Her background in string music education includes 15 years of coaching and teaching with InterSchool Orchestras of New York (NYC) and faculty membership at the Kinhaven Music School and Summertrios.  Currently, Laura serves on the faculty of the Allen-Stevenson School in NYC, where she has taught for the past 17 years.  She also performs regularly with Symphoria (formerly the Syracuse Symphony) and Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown.

FOCUS: Strings: Violin, Viola, and Cello

SPECIALTY:  Laura frequently offers String Master Classes.  Together Laura and the MVCA hope to offer Chamber Music opportunities for those who already play, and ensemble skills for groups of beginners.  Stay tuned for further developments of this exciting collaboration.

CLASS(ES) OFFERED AT THE MVCA:  Private lessons for Violin, Viola, and Cello for students of all levels and ages.   Arrangements have been made to rent or purchase instruments.

AWARDS:  Laura has been asked to adjudicate for the NYSSMA Festival in Manhattan.
