Crocheted Basketry with John Ossowski
June 9 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Exploring Creative Reuse with Crocheted Basketry
In this beginner class, students will explore the nexus between art, craft, and creative reuse strategies by making a crochet basket. Students with a basic knowledge* of crochet will create a small basket from textile and/or yarn scraps. The principles students learn from making this small project will enable students to sculpt larger baskets (or other objects) of their own design independently. Students will also explore the promise and possibilities for sustainable reuse strategies, infusing artistic expression in everyday, sustainable living.
*Basic knowledge = students should be comfortable crocheting in the round and making a single crochet and chain stitch.
Instructor provides materials for one small basket. Students should bring their own crochet hooks. Depending on student’s crochet tension, a size H through J hook would be appropriate; students should bring a variety of sizes to the first class to find out what size will work best for their project.
Class meets Thursday evenings, 7:30 – 8:30PM: June 9, 23, and 30. $30 members, $36 non-members.
