Donnalyn Shuster

CREDENTIALS: Donnalyn, as a participant in the Bridge Program with St. Lawrence University, is a graduate of SUNY Potsdam with a BA in Art/Art Education and in addition holds her MS in Education from SUNY Potsdam. She is a certified NYS Teacher with 35 years’ experience as an Art Educator. Donnalyn is also a member of the New York State Art Teacher’s Association and the National Art Education Association.

MEDIA: Multiple Media Calligraphy, Monoprinting, Jewelry-Making

CLASS(ES) OFFERED AT THE MVCA:
“Drawing on the Right Side of Your Brain”: Featuring tips and techniques in Betty Edward’s Split-Brain Theory, students will learn how to harness the creative side of the brain through observational and visualization skills. Donnalyn also taught this class remotely at the Dolgeville Central School.

Calligraphy: Introduction to Chancery Cursive: this class introduces the beautiful artform of calligraphy, a form of historical European handwriting dating from the 13th Century. Chancery Cursive is a basic calligraphic font.

Watercolor a la Cezanne: This class introduces Cezanne’s theory that the four essential forms (cube, sphere, cylinder, and cone) can be used to represent three-dimensional objects when creating a still life.

Marvelous Monoprinting: This class explores an experimental, one-of-a-kind printmaking process using custom Gel Plates, common textural items, and water-based printmaking inks. The exciting and unique results can be transformed into greeting cards, origami boxes, frameable art, and even jewelry.

Just Bead It: This class introduces the skill of turning upcycled paper into beautiful, one-of-a-kind paper beads. Be inspired by historical and contemporary approaches, experiment with multiple papers, fabrics, and patterns to make earrings or a necklace.

AWARDS: Donnalyn has exhibited work regionally at the MVCA, Arkell Museum, and the St. Lawrence County Arts Council in Potsdam, NY
