INTERIOR DESIGN with Linda Fake - Owner/Designer of Uniquely Yours

Instructor: Ms. Fake graduated from Radford University with a BS in Interior Design. With over 25 years of commercial and residential experience, Linda is certified with American Society of Interior Designers, and is a certified Leader in Energy Environmental Design (LEED) and “Aging-In-Place” specialist.

PAINTING WITH OILS with Kathryn Bartscht
6 - ONE DAY CLASSES

Kathryn uses the oil painting technique known as wet-on-wet or “alla prima.” This method provides a range of options for creating your painting. It is simply the practice of applying fresh oil paint into existing paint that has not completely dried. Complete paintings using this technique take a relatively short period of time, commonly only one sitting.

Instructor: Ms. Bartscht is a certified teacher in “alla prima” painting.

PASTELS - All Skill Levels with Joan Balder Cook
10 - WEEK CLASS

This class is for artists wishing to improve their skills as well as for those new to the medium. The thoughts, techniques, and palettes of other artists, current and past, will be discussed as well as color theory and composition.

For those new to pastel, soft and hard pastels will be used with a variety of papers. Pastel techniques will be demonstrated. Participants may count on individualized attention and critiques to develop their own styles or to pursue a new direction. If you need a materials list call Joan @ 315-737-7278.

Instructor:An award-winning artist, Joan has studied art @ SUNY Plattsburgh, St Michael’s College, Mohawk Valley Community College, Kirkland Art Center, Roeder Arts Center and Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts. She has been instructing pastel at MVCA since 2009.

REALISM with CHARCOAL with John Famulare
10 - WEEK CLASS

Students will work with a variety of charcoals. Some drawing experience would be helpful but is not required. John will give short demos emphasizing a particular principle, followed by a great deal of individual attention. Students need to supply their own materials. A materials list is available through the Arts.

Instructor: Famulare earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Union College in Schenectady. He graduated from Little Falls High School with an advanced high honors Regents Diploma.

BETTER ART: Mixed Media with Lutz Scherneck
10 - WEEK CLASS

All levels of experience welcome. Students will work with various media of their choosing, including materials for quick sketching and painting exercises. Classroom and at-home assignments will help to improve artistic awareness. Suggested media include pastel, crayon, acrylic, watercolor, etc. The recommended drawing surface minimum size is 18” x 24”.

Instructor: Lutz is a graduate of Syracuse University - Visual and Performing Arts. His award-winning work has been displayed throughout Central NY. A large mural of his can be seen on Albany Street in Little Falls.

MIXED MEDIA with Frank Wilcox / Yulia Levkovich
10 - WEEK CLASS

Students will work with a variety of media (acrylic, oil, pencil, charcoal) at their own pace. Frank will give group demos, and each student will receive a great deal of individual attention. Students need to supply their own materials: oils, acrylics, drawing media, etc.

Instructor: Frank Wilcox has been teaching art since I 960 to students of various levels of ability, including pre-school through adult and special needs students. He received his BS and MS in art at SUC/ New Paltz with minors in art history and painting. He has had one-man shows at MVCA, View, Old Forge Library, Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, and Ilion Library.

WATERCOLORS with Lynn Rogers

The magic of watercolor will be defined in the use of light, line, shapes, color and edges.

Let your work evoke emotion and mood in the achievement of a "painterly approach.”
Students need only to bring supplies they presently have. A modest supply list will be provided at the first class. Walk-ins welcome.

Beginning students are always welcome.

Instructor: Lynn Rogers has taught at MVCA since 2014. Ms. Rogers holds a continued interest in the magic of watercolor. She has studied with accomplished artists Margaret Crawford, Jean Uhl, James Toogood, and Georgina Talarico. Her work has been shown in New Jersey, Connecticut and New York in many juried shows.

"Calligraphy: Intro to Chancery Cursive"

Day/Time: Thursday, March 23, 6 PM - 8:30 PM


Have you ever wanted to address that exquisite note or gift tag? Perhaps you want to pen your own poetry for framing. This class will introduce students to the beautiful artform of calligraphy. A form of historical European hand-writing that dates from about the 13th Century, Chancery Cursive is considered one of the basic calligraphic fonts. Small materials list is available.

Instructor: Donnalyn Shuster recently retired after a 35 year career as an Art Teacher (K-12). She holds degrees from SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University. A permanently certified NYS educator, Donnalyn has exhibited her artwork throughout Upstate New York and the Mohawk Valley.

"Altered Books"

Day/Time: Saturday, April 22, 9 AM - 11:30 AM

Take a discarded, hard bound book and let your creative juices flow as you learn how to alter pages using mixed media to transform an old book into a new work of art reflecting your individual style. Students will learn how to create painted pages, explore collage techniques, stitchery and printmaking methods as they build a personally expressive new work of art.

 

 

"Artist Trading Cards"

Day/Time: Saturday, May 20, 9 AM - 11:30 AM

Discover the exciting world of miniature, original collage creations that are completely unique. There are even online trading circles around the world. The only official rule for ATCs: 2.5”x3.5” Try your hand at designing ATCs. Relax with the spontaneous fun in this introductory session. The sky’s the limit!


ART CLASS with Jim Parker
Wednesday evening classes are on-going.

Students ages 12 to Adult.
Special needs students are always welcome.

From Old English style watercolor painting to Japanese anime characters and manga comic drawing, Jim will work one-on-one with students in whatever style they desire. Class size is limited to 10 students to allow one-on-one instruction.

Instructor: Jim Parker is well-known locally for his historic folk art paintings, which have been commissioned by numerous villages, counties, chambers of commerce, historical societies and centennial committees. Parker concentrates on central New York State and the Adirondack Mountain area of New York State. His original paintings are all watercolors, done in an old English style of building each color.
