Lynn completed courses in watercolor technique, theory and teaching fine art. Her art history studies at Pratt Institute have inspired her continued interest in past and contemporary art at the Munson Williams Proctor Institute. She continues to participate in juried art shows. Her paintings have gathered awards at View in Old Forge and several local and regional shows. Teaching at MVCA over 10 years brings new discovery of the creative satisfaction of her students.

I remember a lost and confused feeling when I was learning to paint, years ago. I felt bombarded with information yet lost for direction. If you are just beginning in watercolor the chances are you may feel the same way. I didn’t need anything complex, just a bit of direction. This class provides an atmosphere of easy direction designed for individual growth and style. The medium of watercolor creates ‘untamed beauty’ in art.

OIL PAINTING: REAL SIMPLE - 6 WEEK CLASS with Doug Whitfield

Day/Time: Wednesdays, 2 PM - 4 PM
April 10 - May 15 (6 wks.)
Location:1st Presb Church, 16 Jackson St., Little Falls
Price per Class: MVCA members $150, non-members $175

Painting with only a few essential materials can save you money and help you paint better paintings than you ever imagined! This 6-week course makes oil painting less complicated and easier to do at a fraction of the cost. This uncluttered, practical manner of oil painting makes the experience more accessible and more enjoyable.

Working from still life arrangements, students learn by doing, using a simplified materials list (available when you pre-register for the class).

Students will be able to add colors, mediums and other products if they desire as their basic skill and confidence levels increase. Sometimes people keep it simple for the duration of their practice. Students will have several small paintings to take home when the sessions are completed.

Instructor: Doug Whitfield's work is dreamlike; blurring myth, history and fantasy. The characters in his paintings are just as much aware of you as you are of them, and they beckon you to step into their drama and play along.

In 1969 he began to show his work in New York, N.Y. and soon his work was in major cities throughout the U.S. and Europe. His work has been the feature of dozens of solo exhibitions. He paints daily in his studio at Ceder Lake, N.Y. and teaches, mentors and coaches art, painting and portfolio development.

Whitfield studied at The Cleveland Institute of Art, Mohawk Valley Community College (AAS Design, 1965), Rochester Institute of Technology (BFA, 1968) and Syracuse University (Master Teacher, Integrative Learning, 1999).

“Today, awards and honors are not the reason I paint and no measure of my work’s value. The real significance of my work is the utter joy and emotion it brings to my patrons...”, Doug Whitfield.
