“EXPLORE THE SOUTH SIDE” – with Yulia Levkovich

Date/Time: Sat., July 15 - Aug 26 from 4 PM - 6 PM
Location: South Side & 16 Jackson St (Lansing St entrance)
Price: $190 members / $210 non-members
Walk-ins: $25 per class

Some artists prefer the studio environment; others prefer to leave the four walls behind and experience painting in the environment. This class allows students to choose – “Studio or Plein Air.”

Jayne Ritz has graciously opened her home and property as a “stage” from which to view the lesser-known south side views of the buildings and river. Students may also take advantage of the Presbyterian Church for in-studio work and inclement weather.

This class will cover the important fundamentals of composition, color relationships and aerial perspective, simplification and shape design through the use of the medium of the student’s choice. This includes any drawing medium: pastels, gouache, watercolor, acrylic or oil. Students will be responsible for bringing their own materials and cameras for capturing the image, while easels will be provided. On occasion, students will work within the studio from photographs. Students will learn from an individualized approach as well as demonstrations.

Instructor: Yulia Levkovich, a Representational Painter, was born in Ukraine and moved to Canada where she was exposed to the Russian School of Painting. She received her BFA from OCAD University in Toronto. In 2006 Yulia moved to Manhattan to pursue her MFA at the New York Academy of Art. Yulia has taught privately, as well as in several institutions, including The New York Academy of Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art. Yulia has exhibited extensively in New York and abroad.
